What’s really scary (or so we tell ourselves) is the unknown. We may be miserable in our current circumstances, but we know what to expect and find comfort in the shadows. The issue is that more often than not, we stall when it comes time to action because fear holds us back. In fact, according to a State of Employee Communication and Engagement study conducted by Dynamic Signal, 63% of US workers are ready to quit their jobs due to stress. If you’re like me, you’ve probably come up with plenty of these plans before, often centered around a poor work environment. In those instances, it may be time to devise your GTFO (Get the F**k Out) Plan! However, what happens when the issues plaguing the employee (or even the employer or another leader) are based on the workplace itself? What happens when you feel chained down to something that not only no longer serves you, but is actually harming you? What happens when the very thing that must change is the work environment itself? We applaud these efforts and support continued resources in the workplace. More companies are including mental health in their wellness programs not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because they understand that their employees’ health is directly tied to productivity. They are addressing mental health concerns openly and honestly to combat the long-standing stigma associated with them, promoting physical health (with its direct correlation to mental health), and providing resources and social outlets.
